The Song of Our Bond by Pinki Bakshi

"The Song of Our Bond" is a heartwarming read that makes you feel the essence of true friendship and bonding irrespective of caste, creed or religion. It takes the readers on the melodious friendship of two young girls, Meena and Kasturi.
Meena's family shifts to Khurda due to her father's posting. Though their family feels out of the box in their chit-chat but still tries to gel. Meena feels sad as she can hear little girls playing, cracking jokes and happy with each other, but she cannot understand their language.
One day, she meets Kasturi, and their friendship happens as their love for food resonates with each other. They soon became more than friends and started visiting each other's places, but it changed drastically when Kasturi's father got an opportunity to move to the US for work.
Still, Meena depicts her courage and gifts her a teddy bear to mark her friendship. Their friendship is seen after her departure through letters where Meena shares her thoughts about riots going on in their area and their impacts.
It is intriguing to read about their friendship and longing for a true partner who understands and resonates with your thoughts. The trauma and pity emotional ride during riots and cultural crashes are palpable. I was looking forward to reading whether the true friends will ever meet again.
Pinki Bakshi’s prose is straightforward, elegant, and emotionally evocative. She makes the story approachable and simple to follow by prioritising clarity over intricacy. She conveys emotions in a way that is real and accessible, and her descriptions are clear. The intensity of riots, the warmth of friendship, and the silent pain of separation are all conveyed without needless weight.
Overall, it is a thought-provoking yet touching read. I enjoyed reading it and would recommend the same to all.
