Escape from Kabul: A True Story of Escape and Survival by Enakshi Sengupta
Living abroad and earn a living is path of struggles that only few persons can handle. I was looking for diving into the lives of real people during chaos of 2021. When I stumbled upon this book, I assumed it to be light read about few women. But to my surprise, it gave me have vivid palpitations of people of Kabul and their residing fear from Taliban forces.
"Escape from Kabul" follows the life of five women who worked at the Anglo-American University of Kabul. But in 2021, when Taliban was rapidly taking control of the city, these women are put into the dilemma of taking quick decisions, hiding, scrambling for documents to move out of the country.
I was spellbound with the background of each women, Nadia, Zohra, Anjali, Cathy and Fawzia. Their past and the way they handle the situations with bravery and toughness is narrated in an adroit manner.
The illustration and the title beautifully complement the storyline. The character development is praiseworthy, and the narration remains consistent, smooth, and fast-paced.
Overall, it blends beautiful, empathetic writing with portrayal of real suffering, showing that courage and friendship can bloom in the darkest times.
